Presenting . . . The Kansas City Flute Choir!Welcome to the home page of The Kansas City Flute Choir! Comprising talented flutists from throughout the Kansas City metro area, this intergenerational group performs four to five times per year. Founded in 2005 by Emily Smith and Townes Osborn Miller, the flute choir is open to adults (no audition necessary) and advanced students (under 18 must audition). On this site you will find: concert schedules, audition and membership information, photos, and more! Check out the YouTube videos below for a sampling from an original, unpublished work, Gardens, by Nicole Hlaus, performed by the KC Flute Choir in April 2010; a performance of the last movement of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik from our October 2012 concert; Flower Duet from Lakme from our Spring 2014 concert, and a performance of Sleigh Ride from our December 2012, holiday concert. Our concerts are free and open to the public -- hope to see you in the audience!
"I just wanted to thank you and your fabulous group again for such excellent performances at the Sousa Honor Band last month. I think the students really enjoyed getting to see and hear instruments that are not the "norm" in their daily band rooms. We were also very excited to host a woodwind group, and one that showcased females in our profession so very well." Linda Kroencke
The Kansas City Flute Choir is saddened to hear of the passing of long-time flute choir member and dear friend, Linda Kroencke. Linda joined the flute choir in 2006 and was instrumental in helping the group secure our nonprofit status in 2011; she served as our first secretary on the KC Flute Choir Board of Directors. But more importantly, Linda shared her flute- and piano-playing skills with us, volunteering to play whatever parts were needed: C flute, piccolo, alto, and bass -- she played them all! She performed with the group at the 2008 NFA Convention in Kansas City, as well as all of our local KC concerts. For several years, we had a standing date each August to perform a Sunday service at her church. We'll miss her smile, her wicked sense of humor, her talent, and her zest for life. Rest in peace, Linda. |
